Fred Sugerman
Instructor, Inner Power Yoga Studio
Fred’s life-long passion in exploring the connection between mind and body was born midair in 1975. When doctors informed Fred that he might not walk again due to a serious motorcycle accident, the then 21-year-old actor, dancer and lust-full liver of life had clearer intentions around keeping his leg.

That crash ended Mr. Sugerman’s formal academic career (he became unable to continue a physically rigorous conservatory-style acting program) and began a commitment to a life-long self-directed healing and learning process with teachers in yoga, meditation, Native American ceremonies and the performing arts.

Movement artist and educator, workshop designer and facilitator, and energy wrangler, Mr. Sugerman created his company, Medicine Dance in 1999. Medicine Dance is a verbally guided, often music-inspired exploration of present moment thoughts, feelings and sensations, allowed to move freely and fluidly through the body.

He was a consultant and the interventionist for two years (2008-09) on a research project entitled “Mindful Movement Program for Breast Cancer Survivors,” funded by the California Breast Cancer Research Program in collaboration with the City of Hope, and WISE & Healthy Aging. He has been offering Medicine Dance in Santa Monica for the past 12 years, and he has been here at Inner Power Yoga for at least 5 years, where he created and teaches “Moving Meditation.”

Moving Meditation aspires to provide a space that feels safe and inspiring enough for each individual to move in their own way on their own time. With deep attention guided and supported on the physical sensations in the body, participants often experience a sense of freedom, comfort, restoration and relationship with their bodies that most people do not know is possible.

No dance or meditation experience needed.
